This course serves as a good introduction to leadership and management principles and practices to guide learners into basic leadership and management skills, and prepare for working with and managing people.
Each session comes with additional resources and material to give learners the opportunity to practise more. The content is varied and relevant, and it is structured into manageable steps. A number of different tasks are assigned with every unit for learners to test their skills and identify their weaknesses.
Learners who are resourceful and enjoy working independently will greatly benefit from this course. The Virtual Learning Environment will also help connect learners and allow them to interact online.
The self-paced course will commence from October 2023 onwards and once the required number of learners have enrolled. It offers 100 hours of self-paced learning, including instructional materials, online resources, lesson explanations, discussion forums, assignments, and recommended readings. Registration is open until 15 March 2024. Upon reaching the minimum number of participants, you will be notified. You will have until 31 May 2024 to complete the course at your own pace regardless of the commencement date.
Module 1 – Leadership that Inspires
The aim of this module is to understand the specific responsibilities of individuals in a supervisory/team leader/managerial role in enabling an organisation to achieve its goals and to understand how communication and interpersonal relationships affect managerial performance in the workplace. This includes tools of effective communication and the challenges faced in a leadership environment. Learners will be able to understand the challenges relation to communication and learn how to bring about effective communicative measures among their subordinates. Understanding what motivates individuals is every manager’s responsibility. Using communication to motivate employees, avoid conflict situations, and bring people together to communicate their different ideas and backgrounds to develop a sense of unity in the workplace.
Module 2 – Creativity and Innovation
This modules introduces concepts of Strategic Change Management in terms of Creativity and Innovation, to facilitate in addressing short and immediate problems that may arise in the company, which will then influence medium and long term strategy. This will help learners to think critically about issues and challenges faced and applying practices to solve these issues based on judgement and choice. Learners will also be prepared for change and how to manage this inevitable type of change using effective skills and knowledge.
Module 3 – Financial Understanding
No person in business will succeed if they are not financially literate – and no business will succeed without financially-literate people. This module will educate learners to have a greater understanding of financial management essential to for the organisation. It will help learners understand how to utilise financial information for the benefit of the organisation.
Module 4 – Project Management
This module is about project management practices that the leader/manager can use when managing projects in the organisation.
